THE METAL OBSERVER - Underground Review - LISA SMITH'S POWERHAUS

LISA SMITH’S POWERHAUS is a band out of Toronto with a penchant for the good ol’ denim ‘n’ leather days of Heavy Metal. Lead singer Smith and her partner-in-crime Chuck Page (guitar) have put together an album full of raw, fist-pumpin’ music that often straddles the line between bluesy Hard Rock and more straight-up Metal. It’s pretty decent stuff

The role of the “badass rocker chick” is one that has been noticeably absent since Joan Jett’s departure from the spotlight, and with her excellent voice, Smith could fill such a void nicely. Whether it’s a ballad like “The Needle” or a catchy Metal piece like “Innocence Lost,” Smith always does a good job. She’s even got the high-pitched wails nailed down solid.

Likewise, Page’s guitarwork is great. His searing electric solos over top of the forlorn acoustic strumming in “The Needle” stand out. Also of special note is the super-catchy intro riff to “Crazy For You,” which is quickly followed by a sweet ZZ TOP-esque segment.

“Maze Of Souls” would indeed be a must-buy. Smith and Page have shown that they’re capable of performing Metal at its finest; As it stands, “Maze Of Souls” is a decent glimpse of the potential of the band. (Online February 9, 2009)

run and hide from all the lies
sleepless nights trying to decide
losing sleep
falling deep
opening doors reveal your a cheat

love is over before it began
found the courage to finally take my stand
wandering alone trapped in deciet
loves blind eye never allows me
to admit defeat

now i have to say goodbye
no longer turning loves blind eye
it didn't matter so why do i care
