normally my poetry isn't this jumbled, even though i do tend to be rather erratic with my imagery. so, um - yeah. oh, & the demon/head bit was inspired by a line from "degausser" by Brand New (which is amazing, btw).

she is in everything that means anything to you,
so maybe you will never be over this.
she is in everything that means anything to you,

you are still here;
this is because you're here & she is gone.
hitting the sidewalk face-first,
licking icicles that rip your tongue in two.
faltering beneath the fossilized trees,
waiting for the storm to pass beneath you. this is
for what you should have said.
(i should have cried for you.)
& could you hold this between your fingers for me?
what you touch is life.
what you touch is alive.
the world tilts, on its edge. but it's not turning.
you flail now, as if drunk from trying to swim through the
water in her head. as if you didn't know
(& hadn't seen) exactly where it was she drowned.
nothing but white, & no sign of home - you're
painting colour across your wrists.
the sky cartwheels while you never blink,
scared to miss the start of the rain. this is
for what you never said.
(i should have cried for you.)
freeze it here, like this, in the dark &
pretend you can hide from the demon inside
your own head. black creeping through
your veins until your head cracks & rolls backwards off your neck.
the night is strained,
silent. you are the only one trembling in the stillness, afraid
to be at peace. afraid to sleep. i hope you
never do.
i hope to god you never do.
