I AM ME
(Amber Takao March 2001)
Hi, pleased to meet you,
I'd like you to see who I am,
Now may I introduce myself?
I am me.
I don't have the body of a supermodel,
I enjoy life too much for that,
But I do have the body of a goddess,
As does every woman, young and old.
My face is not flawless,
No airbrushed work of art,
But the stories in its lines
Are uniquely of me.
My hair will not flow
Like the silken tresses you see on TV
But it's the perfect frame for my face,
And it's soft to the touch.
My eyelashes will not flutter
At every word you say
But my eyes will speak sonnets
If you look deep enough to hear
My temperament fluctuates
And is unpredictable at best
But its force is indomitable
When injustice befalls friends
I can be argumentative, strong-willed
And downright stubborn at times
But my questions may sometimes lead
To much deeper understandings
I will not hide my intelligence
To pander to your ego
But if you're comfortable in our equality
Our communications will be fulfilling
So now you have met me
Or at least a small part
To really know me would take forever
For I am a boundless complexity
I am sorry if you're disappointed
Maybe you were expecting
something more
But I am a woman
Like all others,
And I am perfect in my imperfections.
