Go buy a cheapy manual camera with the option of auto. cant go wrong with a nikon. F90 is a god starter cam.
Something with F-stops on the lens.. what the F@@ks an F-stop.. its all those funny numbers on the lens 2.8, 4, 5.6, 8, 11, 16, 22.. those are the f-stops
What does the f stop do? it controls how much light comes into the lens.
e.g 2.8 = wide open 22= almost closed
still confused? take a photo with 2.8, the background will be blurred, take a photo on 22.. everything will be in focus.

what happened to photography?, the grand masters used to spend hours in the darkroom manipulating their images, if the face was too light, they would burn in the area using a piece of card with a hole, or background to dark, use their hands to limit the exposure time for that area. now its just, select area and with a click of a button, its all corrected. what moron came up with that idea?

It used to be, we sleep a third of our life away.. I think those stats have since now changed??
