You replied to Lana's post about an hour ago. Well, my family has a crossbreed chihuahua and we don't get offended calling it a mutt, because my dad likes a mutt. That's just personal preference, but it should not be ruining the name of the real purebreed Chihuahua. You just need to fix the crossbreed dogs and make them less of a brag on the street. I think the paper goes with the dog you buy. It doesn't work if there's only a scandalized paper and oversized Taco Bell chihuahua, right? You need to see both the paper and the dog to conclude whether it's purebreed or not. Lacking any one is not sufficient enough to justify the dog's origin. You can have a Pomeranian with an AKC paper and a Chihuahua with a CKC paper. Of course, you can't register the litters, but that's just like all other purebreed puppies with no paper. I can't believe a champion sired reputable breeder's puppy is selling for 500.00 and an unregistered "teacup" chihuahua is selling for 2000.00. All of the sireline within 5 generations of the puppy were CHAMPIONS! It takes lots of money to show a dog, lots of sacrifices (if the dog's doesn't conform, they won't be bred), and lots of medical procedures to make sure the breeding dogs don't carry hereditory diseases. The effort to put these puppies to this world is too underpriced!! These poor breeders may be investing up to 500 per quality puppy while the backyard breeders spend nothing!! The demand of this society is changing and that will influence all the quality of chihuahuas we get in the future. Are you not worried?

Lana P (no network) replied to Nanette's post 11 hours ago. Thanks Nanette... and just to add to the comments about if it doesn't have papers it is a mutt thing that people have mentioned...that is rude too. My family has a chihuahua who's parents were AKC and CKC registered but the litter was not. She is just as much chi as my other three and if your dog is a pet and not a show or breeding pup what's the big deal anyway. I know the whole thing with this thread was people hate people calling their dog a tea cup and how it upsets you but how is it any different in terms of annoying and rude to call someone's dog a mutt or saying they need their head examined for buying small. The old saying goes if you do not have anything nice to say (and I will add intelligent) do not say anything at all.

Nanette Lai (University of Guelph) replied to Lana's post on Mar 7, 2008 at 10:38 PM. ;) I don't think you need your head examined. I wanted something around 4 lb, nothing over 6 lb. Just not a big fan of anything over standard, wasn't planning on anything under 3 lb but that's how things worked out. People who tell me they want a dog under 2 lb drive me nuts, seeing as that's definitely not normal. I think to have something within standard is totally reasonable, and Lana's definitely reasonable.

Lana P (no network) wrote on Mar 7, 2008 at 5:57 PM. I have taken some offense to the people who say that if you buy a dog for it's size you need your head examined. I wanted small because I personally do not like larger chi's (but that is my preference my mom loves them) but I don't go around saying you need your head examined if you do. ALL small dogs can have issues and if you choose a breeder that has been breeding for years, knows the breed, and all the other things that have been mentioned by everyone else then what is so wrong with buying small? the breed standard is 2lbs to 6lbs. 2lbs is tiny and yet breed standard. and btw my very small chi baby is perfectly healthy not malformed and in my opinion the perfect looking chihuahua.
