OK, yes, I AM annoyed. I played in a poker tourney at Commerce this evening, and it was not an altogether pleasant experience.
Firstly, there was a larger than normal percentage of incompetent dealers. I understand that new dealers make mistakes, but to have several of them, repeatedly make simple mistakes over, and over was frustrating. I didn't yell at them or anything. It's not really their fault that they are new, but it kind of sucks, especially when your tournament life is on the line.
In the middle of the tourney, a floorman, the head floorman, made a ruling that was (IMO) so inappropriate, that I'm seriously considering writning a letter to the casino. A dealer had made a mistake, but it wasn't discovered until the middle of the next hand. There had already been action by every player in this next hand. The floorman, rulled that everyone's chips must be returned, and the hand restarted. I have NEVER seen such a ruling once action has occurred. For the players heavily involved in the hand, it could have had a major impact. Actually, it did have a major impact. A player was eliminated on the redeal.
Then we got within 1 player of the money. (The bubble.) Unlike 90% of other casinos, Commerce doesn't allow everyone to agree to take some cash from the 1st place prize, and distribute it to the person just out of the money. (I disagree, but it's not a major problem.) The result is that just before the bubble every table must play hand for hand. No table can play another hand, until all the others have finished. This is incredibly slow. I was in very decent chip position before this started. Once it started my cards weren't the best, so I didn't have a chance to win more chips. Part of the game, so OK.
However, once we actually made it into the money, the staff, let the clock continue to run. The players are supposed to be consolidated into 4 tables (from 5), but the staff...I'm not sure what they were doing. Meanwhile at least 5 minutes ticked off the clock. (This can be very significant when one is short on chips.)
I politely asked if they would put time back on the clock, but it was not considered.
Well, I was already short stacked, and quickly the blinds and antes increased. Soon after I was eliminated. Came in 32nd out of 337.
Would it have made a difference? Could I have played better? Honestly, I don't know. Except for one hand, I was pleased with how I had played. Unusually, my frustration came about not from the cards, and poker, but by the tournament staff.
I think that I shall refrain from playing any more tournaments at the Commerce.
