It was July of 2001, I was offered a chance to spend 2 weeks in France... so would I really turn down that oportunity? Of course not so I went on the trip and it all started in paris... where else would we start? We landed in Paris and spent 4 days there. The first day we headed for the Eiffel Tower, where else, and came up witht he great idea to climb all 1000 steps to the level where we had to take the elevators to the top. After 1000 steps up flight after flight of stairs we were so thankful we had to take the elevators to teh top. The views of the city were amazing and after talking with a few of the other tourists I met one girl that stands out in my memories, who's name I don't remember, but I talked with her for a good 30 minutes about traveling the world. Well we took the elevator down to the bottom and headed for the Louve, the other main stop on any trip to Paris. We got there only to find a huge line to get in (watch Eurotrip) so a couple of us decided that the louve would be there for years to come so we headed out to find a bar to have a couple of beers while we waited for the group who had to see the Monalisa that very day. about 6 hours later the rest of the group joined us in the pub and we all enoyed the rest of our evening.
The next day we decided to go see the Moulin Rouge which happens to be in the red light district. Looking back now I don't know why we made this crazy decision but we chose to walk to the show instead of taking a taxi to save money... what the hell were we thinking? Well I was walking with two of the younger girls who were 16 at the time and thought it would be a good idea to get all dolled up looking gorgeous. As we walked past the shops the owners tried to grab the girl and pull them into the shops asking them to work for them. So the girls did the smart thing and held on tightlly to my arms as we walked briskly toward the theater. The show happened to be topless, at 18 I didn't even know what the Moulin Roughe was other than seeing the movie the year before, so I didn't know what it was going to be like. I was in the bathroom doing my business as I would any day standing at the Urinal and as I turned around to wash my hands I saw one of the 16 year old girls coming out of a stall right next to me... which really cought me off guard at first but after thinking about how it really made no sense to split up the bathrooms because if you have stalls then it's no big deal. We had a lot of fun and we chose to take a taxi back to the hotel.
The third day we walked through the Notre Dame which was breathtaking. The details in the architecture were just amazing and I couldn't take enough pictures of it to satisfy my interest. At the time I wanted to be an Architect so I was really into the European Architecture.
We took a bus tour from Paris to Nice where we stopped at ever Cathedral ever built along the road... I've seen enough Cathedrals to never see another one in my life! Along the way we stopped in one particular town (don't remember the name) where most of the group headed for the McDonalds... we were in france and everybody wanted Burgers... so a couple of us decided to go look for something more local. We found a little outdoor market where we picked up some Baguettes, cheese, and sausage for the long bus ride to the town we were to spend the night. On the bus ride everybody who had eaten at McDonalds was begging us for food because they didn't plan for the long bus ride so we shared our food with them but we also knew it was going to happen so we bought plenty to snack on for everybody. Att eh next town we stayed a day and while we were there we had dinner at this little restaurant that happened to serve Escargot, which if you don't know, are snails. It was good and tasted like oysters so it wasn't anything really new to me.
Well we finally made it to Nice where we spent 3 days relaxing after a long bus ride through the French countryside. Our hotel was on the beach and I found out that they were topless beaches.
