My senior year of high school, I made it to master's (one step before state) doing pole vaulting for my school. Unfortunately, the Senior Grad Night trip to Disneyland was on the same days... =( Since I already paid for Disneyland, that's where I decided to go. Luckily, since master's is held over 2 days and the girls pole vault was on the second day, I had a slight chance of making it back just in time for my event. 5 minutes before my ride left to go to master's, I arrived back at school straight from disneyland. On the ride up, my coach tells me, "Today, you're either going to clear nothing or break the school record." We arrive at Sac City College and I have 20 minutes to prepare before having to compete. I questioned whether or not I should compete or not, I didn't want to go out there looking like a fool. My friends and coaches encourage me to do it anyway, so I did. I race to get changed into my uniform. Finally, it's the moment of truth. My first try, I knock down the bar. My second try, I tap the bar again, but wait! It doesn't fall! I cleared the height! Granted I didn't make it much further, but I just broke the school record!!! Coming in 18th overall, not bad. I don't get to go to state, but who cares?! My legend lives on!
