The buildings house, for instance, the City Hall, the City Library, the employment agency as well as several small companies.The foundry tradition is still being carried on by Högfors's successor Componenta Ltd.

Along with the foundry, Karkkila grew to be an industrial town with a unique character. A strong working class tradition still prevails there. The buildings of the Högfors Iron Works have been renovated and are nowadays used for other purposes as well.

Look at Karkkila - History - Karkkila was founded in 1932, when the center of the municipality of Pyhäjärvi was separated into the township of Karkkila. It got its city rights in 1977. The completion of the blast furnace in 1823 was the turning point in Karkkila's history. The Högfors Foundry was established in 1822, and the blast furnace was built by the Karkki rapids in the Karjaa river. The iron ore was brought from the nearby Rautamäki mine.
