There's been a lot of first times for things lately...

Today i ate a sting-ray. Not a whole one, just a part of one. I feel this is the beginning of a trend...

Today was a pretty awesome day all round really.

It started out at 4am when i was summoned to collect someone from Oxford St, the Shift downstairs, no less... That was followed by heartfelt proposal on the balcony and trying to get to sleep for a little bit longer but being artfully prevented...

Followed by a McDonald's breakfast and a drive up to Cessnock where we find the skydiving place is stacked full of hot guys. Clearly the pre-requisite to skydiving is a very flat belly and great arms. Anyways... we were too early (well, the pilot was late - big night out prior apparently!!) so we went to a lil town called Greta to play pool and hang out with the locals. Saw the most glamorous dining rooms (circa 1935) and tried to get Matt to go up to the bar and order 3 schooners of shandy. He was wise to our tricks though and refused, so i had to go do it...

Then we went off to dive. Words escape me. Tumbling. Mental. Then strangely serene as the chute deploys and we go cruising to the ground. Matt nearly hurt himself, but only once he was on the ground - didn't spot a rabbit hole and stepped into it!

Then the drive home, via Dodge's mum's place and the frank discussion of facials, threesomes and the difference between "dating", "seeing someone" and "being boyfreinds". It was the 2nd time we've had that conversation, but we got it sorted this time...

So today i did something that i will remember for the rest of my life... My mates Mathieu and Dodge drove up to Cessnock and went skydiving... it was a belated birthday thing for Dodge... 14,000 feet straight up and then spiralling down...

The past 6 months have been so awesome here. The number of people i've met, some of whom have come to touch me in a way i never thought possible. The strangest thing is that it all started to happen once i'd made the decision to leave.

A question occurred to me today: if the universe wanted to send me a message, namely that i really should stick around here a little while longer... how would it do that?

Now it could do it in a number of ways... it could remove my ability to leave (think losing my job, car accident, other types of bad stuff) or it could introduce a whole lot of reasons to stick around.. new romantic interests, new potentially fantastic buddies, fresh challenges and appreciations for what's happening here and now...

And then the thought occurs to me: that's exactly what has been happening. Am i ignoring these messages? I've always put work first in my life... is that the way it's supposed to be?

So this process, this leaving behind of so much i never even knew was there.

All this stuff that had been lying around, waiting to be discovered. I feel like i've been walking around with my eyes closed. So caught up in the grind that i so willingly threw myself into... this city, this pace, this work, this way of living i guess...

So i'm leaving. Sydney is a chapter of my life and it's about to close. The next chapter is just a page away and in the time it takes to turn this page - i'm expecting the world to change. Time to grow up, time to be a grown up. Time to do all those things that i think that grown ups do. Time to work hard(er) and be in a place i think i really would rather not be - but for the work.
