Last season was one of those magical years that I never thought would occur with a Philadelphia team. Usually, I've seen it happen against Philly teams. For instance, I remember in the 2000 Eastern Conference Finals between the Flyers and Devils, the Flyers held a 3-1 lead in the series and needed only one more win to be back in the Stanley Cup Finals. The Devils went onto win the next 3 games though to steal the glory.

This year was amazing in that it took the Phillies to get hot at the right time while the Mets panicked and choked. There were 17 games left in the season and the New York Mets were 83-62 while the Phillies were 76-69, giving them a 7-game lead. Most Mets fans were taunting the Phillies' fans and saying how much our team sucked and then it started. The collapse caught me by surprise. I had been writing little blogs on myspace about the Phillies' games, but as the season wore down and the Phillies were losing in frustrating fashion, I couldn't write them anymore. I followed still, but I couldn't stand to write it anymore.

Of course, I was praying for some epic collapse by the Mets. They were cocky and it was sickening. David Wright and Carlos Beltran were running their mouths, same with ol' Lo Duca. I WANTED to see these guys fall apart and they did. It helped that the Phillies owned the Mets down the stretch. They swept them at home, they swept them at Shea Stadium, they won the last 8 meetings of the 2007 season and the last sweep brought the Phillies back into the race and started the Mets' swoon.

Before anybody knew it, the Mets and Phillies were tied 87-72 going into the final weekend of the season. The Mets were hosting the Florida Marlins, everyone expected them to break out of it in time to dominate the fish. Meanwhile, the Phillies got to host the Washington Nationals in front of a buzzing crowd. It was exciting when the Phillies won the first game of the series and the Marlins shocked the Mets to give the Phillies a 1-game lead with 2 to play. It was the first time all year the Phillies were leading the division.

However, it didn't last very long. The next day, the Mets defeated the Marlins and the Nationals played spoiler for a day to even the standings once more. The Mets would have Tom Glavine to face off against Dontrelle Willis for the final game of the year while the Phillies leaned on veteran Moyer to give them a win. If both clubs won or lost, there would be a one-game playoff to decide the division winner in Philadelphia on October 1st.

It didn't look like it would happen though. Before the Phillies even threw out the first pitch, the Marlins scored 7 runs in the 1st inning for a quick lead. Meanwhile, Rollins led off with a single and then stole 2nd and 3rd, scoring the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly. The Phillies only had to win and the division was theirs. As the Phillies built up a lead, the Mets collapsed to an 8-1 loss and only minutes later, Brett Myers struck out Wily Mo Pena to give the Phillies their first NL East title and playoff appearance in 14 years. It was one hell of a year!

Since today is yet another day lost due to rain, I was thinking back on times when well it snowed. I don't know why, but I've had some memories. I remember this one time, we set up something slippery and packed some snow over it so it wouldn't be seen. It was set up for this kid Ronny, who was an asshole, and I ended up being the one that slipped on the son of a biotch.

There was another time when I was innocently walking home and one of the older kids slammed a snowball into my face and it went down my shirt..that upset me,..a lot. Then there was a time we built this biiiig fort across from my house about 8 years ago. We basically had a war between the "north" side of the block against the "south" side of the block. We would leave the fort, armed with snow balls and attack our "enemies". They didn't really have a fort of their own, using only a porch as their base. We friggin' bombed the hell out of them. When they came up and tried to do the same, our fort was protecting us and we were able to make more snow balls while they were throwing some at us. It was a lot of fun, but then some of the guys that built the fort with us started to treat my brother Travis bad. They were being mean to him and we ended up in this snowball fight with them. When it was over and they went inside, we destroyed the fort. Sad times, but it was slowly melting away anyways. That was the last time I was friends with those guys though. Never forgave them.

I am so bored today. It's been raining off and on the past couple days and so there's not much to do outside. I'm watching the Family Feud right now, but that's boring as hell right now. There's nothing on to watch! Geez..SOMEBODY SAVE ME! heh

I was talking to some guys at work today about baseball. There is a local guy - Kyle Lohse - that they were mentioning. Of course, I know who Lohse is since he spent some of last season with the Phillies. They were talking about how he came into Game 2 of the NLDS with the Phillies up 3-2 and the bases loaded against 'em. He allowed a grand slam and suddenly the Phillies were down 6-3 on their way to a 10-5 loss.

We went from that to talking about how poorly umpires tend to call pitches. TV tends to show a box where the strike zone is and the umpires will call some of them wrong. Well, it went from that to how the umpires used to call pitches that were a good foot outside when the Atlanta Braves were pitching. It's true, though. Smoltz, Maddux, Glavine, Avery, Millwood..they usually got these terrible pitches called for strikes.

Anyway, thought that was some good useless info.

Great day today. Barely did anything on my day off, but when we went out to grab some stuff at my FAVORITE place - it was raining and hailing. It was pretty much done by the time we got there, too. Slap in my face right there! lol
