:Samhain Lore: Southern Hemisphere: 30 April-1 May Northern Hemisphere: 31 October Also known as Samhuin, All Hallow's Eve, Dia de los, Martinmas, Shadowfest. Samhain means “End Of Summer” and is the Third and Final Harvest. The Dark Winter half of the Year commences on this Sabbat. It is one of the two “Spirit Nights” each Year, the other being Beltane. It is a Magical interval when the laws of time and space are temporarily suspended, and the thin Veil between Worlds are lifted. Communicating with ancestors and departed loved ones is easy at this time, for they journey through this world on their way to the Summerland’s Samhain, or Halloween, is the death festival, marking the descent of Winter. The leaves are falling from the trees in drifts, and life is drawn away from the surface of the earth. Life is in the roots and bulbs of plants, which rest over the Winter. It is a time of endings, but also a time of beginnings, as Samhain is a Celtic New Year's eve festival, which can be thought of as a mysterious time, belonging neither to the past or present. The Horned God has taken His throne as the Dread Lord of Shadows, the comforter of souls. Pagans say farewell to Him until the time of his birth at the Winter Solstice. The Earth prepares for sleep and draws energy inwards. This is a time for introspection, as Pagans too draw their energy within and prepare for Winter. The Earth is becoming cold and barren, and Pagans see Her as the Cailleach, the Crone, the Wise One. She is the Dark Mother who devours the God that She may give birth to Him again. Her womb is also the tomb, and the Underworld, and the Horned God thus resides within Her womb over the Winter months. It is a somber time when Pagans remember and honour those who have died. The veil is thinnest between the world of the living and the world of the dead.

A golden thought has just begun where flowers blossom in the sun, And rivers sing to those who pass while shadows lean against the grass, Then I wish a friend like you another friend as good and true.

Yes says the higher power, Brought to thee on the 18th hour, The guardian of the watch-tower of the North, Brings to thee, the bitter-sweet talk, The guardian of the watch-tower of the South, Brings to thee, the knights great joust, The guardian of the watch-tower of the East, Brings to thee, the heart of the beast, The guardian of the watch-tower of the West, Brings to thee, the life of the best. The earth shall shake; The Sea shall rise, The sun shall fall; The moon shall cry, All person’s demons, hate and despise, All emotions lost peace and love shall die. Darkness has taken over; Light shall rise above, Demons shall stay in Hate; Angels shall stay in Love, Love shall always conquer Hate; it must end this way, Although we must have them both, we must see the light of day, These visions must stay in my dreams, that I must injure each night, Destiny, shall not be concealed, us Angels must always fight.

I have a little garden, Where everyone is near, All my cherished loved ones, The family I hold dear. In my little garden, People come to speak, And listen to the wise words, Spoken every week. I love my little garden, Round and round it goes, With rocks, and trees, and flowers, Detached from all my foes. Around my little garden, All my children come to play, All is safe in my garden, Each and every day. I wish my little garden, Will always stay alive, Where all my love will ever find, The Healthy, the Harmony, the Wise.
