Something that has been rolling around in my head for the last week. Had to get it written down.


I rest my head up against the cool glass of the window next to me, my eyes glazed over as I’m lost in the feeling more then the sights. Each time the heavy steel wheels ride from one long strip of steel to the next the Carriage makes the rhythmic sound, THUMP thump THUMP thump, like a heart beat. As the wheels pass out, the metal buckles and moves under the weight, but never gives in, holding the wheels in place, guiding them to the next THUMP thump THUMP thump. There is no feeling like that of a Train, Except that of maybe a horse draw carriage, the feeling of being pulled. Each change in speed, each turn, each incline and decline the engine pulls, tugs, pushes, bumps and shoves. When the engineer is gentle at the controls, the movement is leased but is never gone. That never ending pulling, that uncontrolled feel of drive forward but always keep going, down a path that no one can change or control, but always that never ending THUMP thump THUMP thump remind us we are still alive.
