Its forked tongue shot out at me, its head raised above the hot sand, casting its shadow at my feet. Shiny scales sent shimmering butterflies of light into the dry rustling grasses around us. On my hind legs I stood and quickly I looked around. The alarm must have shown in my face because my family all started to edge in my direction. Once they could see the snake that I stood poised in front of they all hurried to my side, forming a wall of furry bodies.
I darted forward and was matched scamper for scamper by the others. The snake, realizing its prey had just multiplied began to turn, moving off into the grasses to avoid the conflict presented by the ever moving pack of Meerkats.
