Time for a new tale. Are you sitting comfortably? Then we shall begin...
I am 37 years of age (if you hadn't already noticed), this is poignant as it is also the same age at which my mother first picked up a cigerette and started to smoke, but then not really sure what else she would have done with it other than stuck it in her ear.
Her reason was to prove to my father how easy it was to give the habit up and also to stop wearing nun's outer garb.
37 years on my father, who does not wear a dog collar, has finally been free of tobacco for 3 months and my mother still holds the baton in her hands.
Why have I started now? Generally in private or when out with a drink to calm my over enthusiasm as I can be a bit of a whirlwind, but now it is when I am writing, which is problematic as I see the tobacco burn to an ash quickly and puff betwen words not sentences.
'I see you have started smoking', they say.
Me? No I haven't started, of course I have. When will I stop? I like it at the moment, it is my sane release for now. I have never criticised anyone for smoking and always wondered why.
