So, I decided to make some brownies. The recipe I had only made one batch, but I was really fiending for some and thought "Why not quadruple the recipe?"
I bring out my LARGE mixing bowl, pour in the ingredients and turn on my electric hand mixer. My mixer starts, spins a couple of times, then just sputters out. I'm thinking, "What just happened?" I turn the mixer off, then back on: NOTHING. So, I lifted it out of the batter to check. . . . except, I forgot to turn it OFF.
Batter EVERYwhere: on the walls, the floor, the ceiling, ME. Yup, apparently, the mixer was working just fine; it was the extremely THICK batter that kept it from mixing. By the time I turned the darned thing off, there wasn't much batter left on the beaters, BUT there was loads of batter splattered everywhere else.
Lesson learned: Be sure to have industrial strength equipment if you plan to quadruple a fudge brownie recipe.
