Another day passed
with the setting of the sun
casting final glows as
dusk turns to midnight blue
i watch as stars
compete with streetlamps
through the window
and wonder how a world so fine
can be so unforgiving
i watch as insects clamour
to the windows' glass
wanting in, wanting out
not quite sure which side will last
longest but i know that the one thing
that could change my mind
in my own choice and competition
is the one thing just out of
my grasp;
a breath beyond my reach
and i am struck
waiting
wanting in, wanting out
dreaming of a day when
someone will open up my window
and let me fly
first to the streetlamp
then to the star
and back again
only to find...
that nothing really changed
and i am home
again
