There is a kind of monkey trap used in Asia.A coconut is hollowed out and attached by a rope to a tree or stake in the ground.At the bottom of the coconut a small slit is made and some sweet food is placed inside.The hole on the bottom of the coconut is just big enough for the monkey to slide in his open hand,but does not allow for a closed fist to pass out.The monkey smells the food,reaches in with his hand to grasp the food and is then unble to withdraw it.
The clenched fist wun pass through the opening.When the hunters come,the monkey becomes frantic but cannot get away.There is no one keeping that monkey captive,except the force of its own attachment.All that it has to do is to open the hand.But so strong is the force of greed in the mind that it is a rare monkey which can let go.
It is the desires and clinging in our minds which keep us trapped.All we need to do is open our hands,let go of ourselves,our attachment and be free.

As long as we measure others and ourselves by what we have and how we look,life is inevitably a discouraging experience,characterized by greed,envy and a desire to be someone else.

Years ago,when Bear Bryant was coaching the University of Alabama's football team,the Crimson Tide was ahead by only 6 points in a game with less than 2 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.Bryant sent his quarterback in to the game with instructions to play it safe and run out the clock.

In the huddle,the quarterback said'Coach says to play it safe,but thats what they are expecting.Let's give them a surprise.'With that,he called a pass play.
When the quarterback dropped back and threw the pass,the defending cornerback,who was a champion sprinter,intercepted the ball and headed toward the end zone,expecting to score a touchdown.The quarterback,who was not known as a good runner,took off after the cornerback and ran him down from behind,tackling him on the 5-yard line.His effort saved the game.
After the clock ran out,the opposing coach approached Bear Bryant and said"What's this business about your quarterback not bing a runner?He ran down my speedster from behind!"
Bryant responded"Your man was running for 6 points.My man was running for his life.
