Today A poem by Kristen LaBrosse

In the beginning,
When i first saw your face,
I didn’t think anything of it.
It didn’t leave a trace.
You were there,
Just existing beside me.
I had not a clue,
none whatsoever,
Of what you were thinking,
Of what you hold true.

Now just a few years later,
I find you again,
But to a different significance than before.
One more alluring,
One more obscure.
I feel different around you,
Like nothing else matters
Than the space that’s between us.
And your thoughts,
And your hopes,
And your dreams
They matter to me.

You are the air that surrounds me,
I breathe you in.
You are as calm as a summer breeze,
As fierce as the winter wind.
You are the ground i walk on.
You can be as soft as a sandy beach.
But sometimes you get hard
And you blister my feet.
You are everything and nothing
And I feel what’s not felt.
For the deep, roaring,
unsatisfied thing that is my soul
Is finally at peace, behold!
As i sigh with contentment,
You look in my eyes,
And i have more questions,
Never-ending, and undisguised.
For yesterday, oh so long ago,
You didn’t mean anything.
So now I cry out in woe!
Tomorrow is frightening,
With new places, uncharted and far away.
And dangerously outside
The comfort of today.

But then i realize,
For now it is enough.
To be held in your arms
And have not a care in the world.
To laugh like there’s no tomorrow,
And let the stress float away.
Because tomorrow won’t be the same,
It changes everyday.

Today you are my world and I am your dream.
We are in perfect harmony,
Oblivious by any means.
Together we can achieve anything,
Unspoken. Unreal. Unseen.
