Well some folks have asked me to write a story about how I proposed to my new fiance. So, because I'm so obliging here goes:
I drive down to Lindsay's house on Friday night to pick her up, I had told her I was going to take her out to dinner. Her favourite restaurant is a little place in Wallaceburg called The Black Sheep. There's a pub in the front and a fancy dining room in the back. Normally we go to the pub half but I tell her when we get there we should get a table in the back. She looked at me kind of shocked but I told her it was for her Christmas dinner.
Now, normally the place is almost empty, so I figured I wouldn't have too much of an audience when I actually popped the question. But that night of course it was pretty much full. Great. Anyway we get our table and start looking at the menu.
Normally Lindsay doesn't take very long to decide what she's having. My plan was that I would ask her in the time between ordering and when our food arrived. That night however Lindsay just couldn't decide between three different entres. Of course. I pretty much made her do an eeny meeny miney to figure it out as I was getting slightly impatient. Finally she decides and we order.
Okay, she had been bugging me for a couple of weeks for something shiny and diamondy, so kind of as a joke and to throw her off I had bought her a little stuffed animal from the International Star Registry with which you get to name a star. Ha ha. I tell her 'Well I kind of had another reason for bringing you here tonight Lindsay, I wanted to give you your shiny diamondy thing'. 'Are you proposing," she says. I say 'No' and pull the little stuffed cow out of my coat and tell her what it is. She's looks at it and says 'That's sweet but it's not very diamondy.' That's my girl. I say 'Sure it is, it's a star!' and as I'm saying this I'm reaching in my pocket for the ring and she's still reading the tags on the stufty. Then I get out of my chair and get down on my knee. She clues in and stops reading to look at me where I say 'Don't worry honey, I got one for your hand too. Lindsay, will you marry me?' It's amazing how quickly everyone in a restaurant clues in when a guy gets down on a knee. Everyone's eyes are on us, she gets all misty and says 'Yes, of course I will.' so I breathe a huge sigh of relief and get up to give her a big kiss and a hug. Everyone claps and cheers and I sit back down, strangely more nervous than I was before I proposed.
So the restaurant brings us complimentary champagne and we find out later that we are the first to get engaged in the place. The rest is history.
There, I hope that quenches your thirst for dirt (Niki).
