The following was written by one of my intermediate-level students as homework. The task was that they had to choose one headline (from a list - we dealt with these during the preceding lesson) and write it into a news item, in wahtever style they may fancy. This student is really into sci-fi, as is easily discernible. (Between Friends - actually Amongst Friends is a popular Hungarian soap):

"A prisoner has escaped from Moon
(TV arcticle)
A convicted murderer has escaped from one of the Moon’s penitentiary institute which are the most guarded prisons in the galaxy. It holds several race’s criminals and no one escaped from there before. As we know, Martin Phase – who call himself „The Dominator” – got a particle cannon and fought himself through the guards to the docks. He killed at least 6 guards and injured 2 more, one of the wounded guard’s condition is critical, he has been operated. He stole a wraith’s (an alien race) spaceship and forced the crew to work for him. The spacehunters are after him but he has entered hyperspace and they lost his track. Phase has been convicted for several murders, intergalactic piracy and because he is the leader of the A.I.U. (Against Intergalactic Union). He is very dangerous even for bounty hunters, citizens have been advised to avoid him.
Breaking News – Phase torn apart probably
We have to interrupt Between Friends’ 3674535. episode, because of the news about the Phase incident, sorry for that. The pursuers have tracked him down and successfully set for him a trap. When Phase came out of the hyperspace he found himself a lot of spacehunters’ battleship around. He started to fire from every laser cannon but the return-fire damaged seriously the ship’s shields and ion thrusters. Realized there’s no way out he wanted to kill everyone including himself and set his ship to a collision course with the nearest black hole. The hunters teleported the crew out of the spaceship safely and let Phase go through the unknown. The rebellion leader is dead, probably. We will celebrate this later but now back to the series…"
