Ok here we go:- About 8 yrs ago me and 8 friends went to lanzerote on holidy. I'd not long had a car crash and had a memory like a goldfish.
A bunch of us went scuba diving. The guy explained some basic diver talk(sign language) to us. Thumbs up meant up, ok meant ok. If he did the ok sign you did it back, that way he could keep a check on you.
We tried out in the pool, then he picked us up next morning. 6 in a fiat fu&^in uno!
Anyway we went to the beach n walked out into the sea. When we got deep enough we tested our gear and then swam out a bit deeper.
You had a heavy weight belt and a tank on your back, also a kind of bubble vest that blew up with air. Between the bubble and weight belt you could get yourself to float in the middle of the water.
It was really hard to get the balance right. I was either lying on the sea bed or bobbing like a cork on the top.
Eventually i'd get it right, and swim off lookin at stuff. The instructor would pull my flipper and sign 'You look at me, ok'. I'd stick up my thumb thinkin 'yeah sound!' and we'd go straight back to the top.
When we got to the top, i'd look at him bemused. He'd say 'are you ok?' me 'yeah man sound!'.
Back down we'd go n i'd have all the grief of making myself float in the middle again.
I'd get the hang of it, and flip off, lookin at stuff.
The guy came back pulled my flipper and did the'ok' sign. I'd say 'yeah man, sound' and stick my thumb up! Back up we'd go.
I spent the whole session going up n down, well pissed off!
It wasn't until we got back to the hotel that I worked it out.
Everytime he asked if I was ok I put my thumb up 'yeah sound' (the signal for up).
Funny now, but insanely frustrating at the time. lol
Please give me a thumbs up if ya liked my little tale.
