I MOURN

Though your body draws breath,
Your soul is long since dead.
Though your eyes are open,
They no longer see.

I mourn for a man,
Long since dead to me.
All that remains to mock,
Is a shell of his former self.

Though a pulse maybe found,
Your heart has forever died.
Though your voice maybe heard,
It no longer stirs emotion.

I mourn for a man,
Who's laughter filled me.
Here sits a plain carbon copy,
Stamped clearly VOID.

HOW

How can the poet I knew
Look upon his child's face
And not see the wonder
Nor feel the joy of tomorrow?

How can the artist I knew
Not see the beauty
He created as it grows
Nor care should it wither?

How can the strong man I knew
Fear his family so
He feels the need to hide
In a croud of strangers?
