i just watched a very interesting film called "The Thank You Girls." Its about a group of beauconneras (ladyboys who earn their living by joining gay beauty contests one after the other) on a road trip to the next one. Its interesting because it fuses together several things you dont usually see: a segment of gay life (professional gay contestants), was written in the Visayan language, shot in Mindanao, a road trip movie. It really made me wonder had life been different, would i end up just like one of those characters. their stories are tragic in a way, poor, not educated, eke-ing money by exposing themselves to humiliation, yet holding on to a belief that someday a beauty contest will affirm their worth as individuals. hay...i think each of us want to find that special special place where we feel the most beautiful, the most needed, the most intelligent, the most special. so i guess, here's to that special place, and may all of us find it. cheers!

Living in a country where there is such archaic beliefs about gayness, is just soooo frustrating for a gay guy who only wants to land a decent relationship in his lifetime. although i refuse to believe that i am the only person in my city to want a long-lasting partnership, i also refuse to wait for another 20 years or so before this third world countrry catch up with the rest of california where gay marriages happen. its mind-boggling to think that a lot of these people act semi-americans but just fold up when things so american (gay marriages) are mentioned. i guess i have to go back to the states then....argh!
