There once was a girl who loved to go to the beach. She loved the sound of the waves, the smell of the sea, the sight of the horizon, but most of all, she loved writing poems and little stories into the sand. She felt that she was writing stories to the sea, and her poems, songs for the waves to sing.
One day, as she finished writing a little tale, the sea washed up a kite. It wasn't very pretty. Neither was it ugly nor broken. Just plain. She took it home and left it aside. Didn't think much of it except that sometimes, its tail seemed to dance a cheerful dance in the wind whenever she felt down.
It made her smile. Very widely.
She took it out one day and looked closely upon it.
She didn't notice it before.
A little tale written on the side of the kite. She read and smiled.
The kite pulled her out of the house back to the beach and flew.
She watched it fly and laughed as it dipped around its silly dance.
The kite wanted to be flown everyday and she obliged.
However, she got busy one day and the kite still wanted to be flown. Pondered, thought, she couldn't bear to see it sad so she brought it out to fly again. She taught the kite tricks; the kite taught her to laugh.
People soon got curious and peeped at her whenever she played. They said the kite was mesmerizing and wanted to know where it came from.
She didn't care, she was having fun.
But she didn't notice this, the string of the kite was brittle.
One day, the kite left her room to fly by itself. She didn't bother much. It came back. To tell her stories with a dance and a new ribbon by its tail.
She kept silent.
She took it out to fly. Predicting it would be the last time.
It was.
The brittle string broke. The kite flew and she watched it move further and further, tinier and tinier.
She clutched on tightly to the end of her string and fell into the sand. Her hands bled. Her heart ached. Her eyes teared.
She didn't know why.
But she knew, the kite was somewhere out there, safe and sound.
And she started feeling too broken, to even cry.
