18th Verse of the Tao

When the greatness of the Tao is present,
action arises from one's own heart.
When the greatness of the Tao is absent,
action comes from the rules of
"kindness and justice."

If you need rules to be kind and just,
if you act virtuous,
this is a sure sign that vitue is absent.
Thus we see the great hypocrisy.

When kinship falls into discord,
piety and rites of devotion arise.
When the country falls into chaos,
official loyalists will appear;
patriotism is born.

I think everyone’s heart is filled with poetry; some people just don’t realize it, haven’t given it notice or haven’t developed it. It’s there though. In those moments you first held a new born child, those times you drove along the road and the sunset took your breath away, when you climbed to the top of a mountain and the breeze caught you in just the right way. When music filled you and lifted you out of your body, and you couldn’t help but to dance or sing.

It’s in those moments that this life and the one after are so close to each other that they are separated by a fleeting curtain of the softest silk, and you can’t breathe for fear of ripping reality apart.

So I was bored last night, phoned a friend and got invited to a production at the civic theater "Pottie Potgieter"......

Of course I was game, so off I went in my work clothes with a splash of "Marc Jacobs" eau de toilet (BTW. does anyone know where to get this in S.A??? I love the fragrance and I haven't been able to find in anywhere) to mask the days smells.

I must admit I was not disappointed, anyone who has a knowledge of the history of South Africa, and wishes to laugh (and cry), while learning a valuable lesson on life, should make a plan to go see this production! (Oh yes and a good grasp of Afrikaans language is necessary!)
