I had plenty of good moments in 2007. In fact, it was a kick ass year for me. Although I'd love to share them all with you, I'm pretty sure you got better things to do than reading an essay about how I drewl over some things in my past.
So I will pick one moment, hard as that may be, and declare that my Best Moment of 2007.
It is July 4th 2007. Although my American friends might consider this beautiful day per definition, it had some other significance to me this year than Independence Day. It was three days after the successful 4th edition of the festival I organise together with some good friends. We had close to 20,000 visitors and were exhausted from working like maniacs for close to two weeks, aside the months of preparation. It was time to have a little fun for ourselves...
It's around 8:10 pm. I'm in the Heinken Music Hall, Amsterdam. The first sounds wave through the hall. A high pitched short melody. It repeats...over and over again. It fades, the anticipation rises. The sounds of an electronic voice saying "Rooo-boooot, Huuuuu-maaaaaan" is kindly received by my eardums...
The voice repeats. It speeds up increasingly. My expectations rise. By this time the crowd is on the edge of their toes screaming like someone miles away needs to hear them. Then the first guitar strokes. Soon the bass and kicks follow. Daft Punk is here...
What happens in the next 1 hours and 50 minutes is impossible to describe. An overwhelming feast for both ears and eyes. It numbs me for days. I'm indifferent to anything that normally gives me my kicks, including my normally beloved music. When I close my eyes I get flashbacks of that night a couple of days before. I surrender...
Like I said, I had great moments in 2007. Even when I only count the music related ones, I end up with a huge list of favourites like Basement Jaxx, Groove Armada, Trentemoller, Booka Shade, Tiefschwarz, Chemical Brothers... All of them extremely good (well except Chemical Brothers but thats a different story), none of them even close to Daft Punk. I dont know if it was the insane 110 dB crystal clear sound, the insane visuals, the succes of our festival, hanging out with friends or the small amount of 'undisclosed substances' rolled up in some paper and smoked by yours truly and friends...but this was the experience of a lifetime. Enough said...watch the video!

That is a lot of miles... I'm originally from Poland though, a bit closer to you.. :)
Life here is a bit boring and stressful lately since I have some uni assignments that I'm struggling with, which are taking up all my time... But, only two more weeks and I hand them in and can relax a bit more. And then I'm going to a few big events myself, Tiesto and Armin van Buuren shows. Love the atmosphere at these places.
