Unknown's tales

Not meant to be a depressing one honest :), During my last stint at Hospital, I took part in my first real live Cardiac arrest. The person came in alive but unwell in the ambulance but "went off" very quickly. There were five of us (2 docs and 2 nurses and me the student nurse) doing the best we could to save this person, but to no avail. The wife and son witnessed the resus, which I found very surreal but it was nice to know they took strength from seeing what was going on. Anyway to the point, lifes short, and there to be enjoyed, me I never frown or rarely get pissed off (ok Im human I do occasionally), so have a ball people, and remember love everyone the way you want to be loved...ok that could be dangerous for some!!!

I dont make a big thing of it, but I'm vegetarian, I have been since I was a wee lad. Not for health reasons I hasten to add, because I can drink!!!!! But one of my fave authors summed up his opposition to eating another animal; "Once, I would have ordered bacon or sausages, but not now, the more I had come to believe in the indestructibility of life, the less I wanted to be a part of even illusionary killings. If one pig in a million might have a chance for a contemplative lifetime instead of being killed for my breakfast, it was worth swearing off meat." All to their own tho, it just works for me and my philosophy :)

One on the list of my favorite films is Shawshank Redemption. There's a great monologue from Morgan Freeman talking about his friend; Some birds aren’t meant to be caged, their feathers are just too bright, and when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up does rejoice, but still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they’re gone. Well, dont know about anyone else, but personally I've come across people that fit that to a tee

You KNOW you are a nurse when :- You believe that all bleeding stops ... eventually. You find humour in other people's stupidity. Your idea of fine dining is anywhere you can sit down to eat. You believe chocolate is a food group. You have the bladder capacity of five people. You disbelieve 90% of what you are told and 75% of what you see. You have your weekends off planned for a year in advance. You believe that "shallow gene pool" should be a recognized diagnosis. You believe that unspeakable evils will befall anyone who utters the phrase "Wow, it's really quiet isn't it". You threaten to strangle anyone who even starts to say the "q" word when it is even remotely calm. You have ever had to leave a patient's room before you begin to laugh uncontrollably. Your favorite hallucinogen is exhaustion. You think that caffeine should be available in I/V form. You have ever restrained someone and it was not a sexual experience. You can identify what kind of diarrhoea it is just by the smell. Your immune system is so well developed that it has been known to attack squirrels in the backyard.

We come closest to another person when we give of ourselves. There is beauty in sharing with someone we love, whether it be in that first tentative conversation or shy kiss, or in a passionate interlude. We entwine hands, minds, bodies and spirits, delighting, as the unknown grows familiar, and then adored. We change with each embrace-every touch enriches our lives, leaving us a little bit different from whom we were. Sometimes, in order to let someone else inside, we fight against our feelings, struggling with our heads and hearts. But who would want it otherwise? Although opening up to another person is one of the most difficult things we do, it is also one of the most fulfilling. In a true embrace we give so much – and may just find ourselves.
