I have yet another animal tale. There is something living under the stairs at work. I have to walk down them a couple of times a day. The creature managed to almost take out a skunk which died at the doorway. Every once in a while whilst travelling down the stair, when I am slow, I'll feel something grab my pantleg. Of course I work the graveyard shift and the stairs way is dark. Now my curiousity has gotten the best of me and I staked out the stairway watching for what is living under the stairs. I call the creature Hairy Potter. After hours of watching, I finally caught a glimpse of a Pine Marten.

Tonight I hit a deer. It was sad and disturbing. I thought when you hit an animal, it stayed all together and didn't fly off into pieces. I am glad to be alive. If you want to warn someone of impending doom or something to watch for on the highway, don't blind them with your high beams....instead try turning off and on your headlights.

I went out xcountry skiing this last week. My new skies were initiated and I found I had to learn all new techniques. The first time out I waxed them and off I went.... or tried to. Going backwards on skies is a challenge. I managed not to fall down and mastered my duck walk. After adding more wax I was off. It was a most enjoyable ski until the squirrels decided to drop their acorns on us. I swear they were aiming and laughing. The white fluffy bits fell to cover the hazard until I ground to a halt... or rather my skies did.
The squirrel print were obvious and they waited until skiers past before entering the path.

Now I should tell you that ever since two squirrels climbed into my napsack /backpack on a hike and terrorize me, I have been on edge when the little critters get close. They seem to know this. I dropped a cheerio once when camping and when I went to pick it up, a squirrel bit me. Another time I opened the car door to get ready for a hike and a squirrel hopped in by my feet. What is it with creatures?
