WHEN YOUR HUT’S ON FIRE!!!! The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him. Every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming. Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him from the elements, and to store his few possessions. One day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, with smoke rolling up to the sky. He felt the worst had happened, and everything was lost. He was stunned with disbelief, grief, and anger. He cried out, "God! How could you do this to me?" Early the next day, he was awakened by the sound of a ship approaching the island! It had come to rescue him! "How did you know I was here?" asked the weary man of his rescuers. "We saw your smoke signal," they replied. The Moral of This Story: It's easy to get discouraged when things are going bad, but we shouldn't lose heart, because God is at work in our lives, even in the midst of our pain and suffering. Remember that the next time your little hut seems to be burning to the ground. It just may be a smoke signal that summons the Grace of God. P.S. You may want to consider passing this on, because you never know who feels as if their hut is on fire today.

Today is the anniversary of the birth of Robert Nestor Marley, a visionary man who wrote powerful uplifting lyrics that continue to inspire people years after his death. I challenge each one reading these words to "emancipate yourself from mental slavery...."

Like I said, a tiger will do what a tiger has to do. Now it seems that, as I long suspected, stupid humans were teasing the Siberian tiger in the SanFran Zoo on Christmas Day. The humans were drunk, allegedly... the wall was only 12 feet tall.... and evolution has supposedly made Homo sapiens the top of the food chain...???? Opposable thumbs notwithstanding, teasing and taunting the largest, fastest and strongest land predator on the planet is not a sign of intelligence. Someone will by now have nominated these fools for a Darwin Award. I hope they win. The survivors should at least get an honorable mention.

Growing up in the Caribbean has its advantages. Great weather year round, the kind that other people spend hundreds of dollars in airfare to get! Of course, this means that when you do encounter snow, it comes as a horrid shock. I am NOT a snow tiger.

One must understand that a tiger will do what a tiger will do. Keeping a full-grown Siberian tiger in an enclosure with only a 12 foot wall around it does not demonstrate superior intelligence on the part of homo sapiens. The fact that said tiger remained inside this enclosure lends credence to the notion that Siberians, while big and fast and strong, are not the sharpest tools in the shed. But like I said, a tiger's gotta do what a tiger's gotta do. There is no moral to this tale/tail. Just sadness because some bureaucrat's cost-cutting cost a human and a tiger their lives.
