The worst night of my life!
3am Friday 15th August 2008 was awoken with a phone call from my 16 year old who was spending night on secluded beach for a friends birthday. They had lit a fire in a cave when suddenly the roof collapsed,he had got hit on his knees by falling rocks & another friend next to him had had his legs trapped by the large rock. Who could ever imagine that that the group of 6 could act so maturely in this situation,they instictively knew how to handle the situation,the alarm was raised & with the greatly appreciated services of the emergency services they were airlifted to hospital where it was surprisingly discovered that they only suffered soft tissue injuries,another foot and another story would have been told.
My heartfelt thanks go to the coastguard,many of whom I know,the inshore lifeboats & helicopter crew & the paramedics on the scene,these people are much needed in a rugged coastal area so please support your nearest.
But those 4 other lads who immediately knew what protocal to follow,by treating for shock,talking to the lads to keep them calm,finding the amazing strength to lift the rock off their friend & to raise the alarm. Many 16 year old lads out partying may get bad press,but my hat goes off to these boys,when the chips are down you know who you can rely on.
Hopefully my son has had his 15 mins of fame & I promise not to wrap him in cottonwool lol
