Happy Endings
On Friday my drunk brother crashed your party
He chased away the high rolling executives
With diamond rings and platinum wives
Saturday he apologized
with hung over smiles and false promises
Monday you were grim faced about seeing your boss
I tried to brighten your day
little did I know you were allergic to sunflowers
I can almost hear you cursing my name
As Hank the janitor breathes life into your heaving lungs
Wednesday I checked you out of the hospital
But when we left we found our tires slashed
Thank goodness your mother happened to be here
She had to drive the two seater
You rode with her of course
I rode with Frank the Taxi driver.
When I got out of rush hour traffic
I found you sleeping
And your mother redecorating the apartment
Its Thursday and the phone just rang
I am a horrible wife
For when I heard you say,
“Oh hello sir,”
I picked up the phone
Now you smile at me
And I don’t know what to say
Crazed days end with sighs and laughs
We open a bottle of sparkling grape
And toast to both our dreams
You have your executive position
It requires us to move
Who says there are no happy endings?
