....George got his name from Ben, an old hermit living out in the woods. Ben was out checking his traps one day, when several shots rang out across the forest. Ben bustled through the undergrowth to see what was going on, and there he found a dead female grizzly bear, and a man, a traveling salesmen, lying against a tree and bleeding rather profusely. Ben was rather annoyed that he had shot and killed the bear, albeit in self defence.
Ben grunted a "lets have a look at you" and examined the man's injuries. Suddenly, from the bushes behind them, there was a rustle. The man, still terrified, turned even whiter, if that was possible....Ben turned to see what it was, and out emerged a bear cub. He suddenly knew why the Grizzly had attacked the man...
Ben helped the man to his feet and began making his way to town, much to his surprise the little cub followed.
A couple of hours later they reached the town. Ben dropped the man off at the doc and grunted a goodbye as the man thanked him.
So what are we going to do with you, Ben said to the forlorn looking cub. Ben headed back to the forest, with the cub trailing behind him. Ben didn't really want the cub around, I mean what was he going to do with a bear cub anyway. He sold bear skins for a living, he certainly didn't look after orphan cubs!!!
Ben shooed the cub away upon reaching his cabin, and settled in for the night.
He awoke early the next morning, as he opened the door he found the cub fast asleep on the porch. Maybe it was the early morning air, or the sight of the little cub, or the fact that they both were alone, but in that moment, Ben took pitty on the little cub....I think we'll call you George he said....
