I learned something profound today. Actually I always knew it, but sometimes it takes someone else saying it to make it sink in. Today one of my patients, who is surely going to die from her cancer, told me something. When I told her that it was only Tuesday and that the week was going by slowly, she turned to me and said, "Live every moment like it's your last. You may not have much time left." It really hit home for two reasons. The first is that I don't believe that I will live to see my 30th birthday. I have always thought that. And I am getting closer daily. Secondly it was coming from a rather young lady who, despite her perscription saying that I was treating her curatively, will someday soon die from a horrible disease. No matter how bad I am feeling or how tired I am of a morning when I see her, she makes me smile on the inside. I will always remember that. Thank you Mrs. S!
