Above me the moon is rising.
Couples, that bill and coo in the parcs,
are not aware of the late light of the roses,
that will die in the twilight-chambers.

But maybe somewhere there is a man,
that understood the mystery of the night
and now, like me, got moved,
between blossoms shivering with cold.

And I know, without grief,
that we will never get together
then as strangers in each others dreams:
A missing luck, hardly weeped over.

Far away from me, endlessly, reaches the
wash of the waves of the abandoned heart.
Flower after flower becomes black in the chamber:
See, this evening the last rose dies.

Often I watch through my eyes the landscape,
the fields and the tracks along the woods,
the small farms and the little meadows.
Often I walk with my feet through twilight
and can hear the landscape along my ears
and feel it lying peaceful in my body.

And once I recognised it as myself :
That was when - in the evening,
between a couple of stars,
without eyes - I walked about in the dark
and suddenly felt the changing of my soul in
an un-earthly and immense landscape.

Unaudible sink the silent twilight,
and stride soundless, always onwards,
until she set at rest in motionless...
It’s if she whispers me softly in my ear
sweet mysteries, that no mortal knows,
that I can not explain, so vague
and shapeless;...though so heartfelt, divine gentle,
that it shrouded my fascination in secrecy,
and I sit immovable, in apprehension,
that the filmy twilight will tear up,
and so my soulmysteries.

The nights blow. A strange rain
startled my thoughts. A strange rain
raced in time. I think of you -
Lights haunt - I yearn for you
that is so far away... I search the stars:
the night is closed. And from far
come the winds, mighty and black,
and break the roses, that are still alive -
I think of you and the rains tremble
wild and tempestuous at my heart...
The nights blow, the winds rustle.
I think of you, and I lie alone...
I lie alone with a silent
call for you in darkness.
Always the wind. Always the rain.
Always the night and my yearning.
