Harry Potter is alright, not my favorite as far as plots go, but I respect Rowling's grasp on scene, character, time, and transition.
Even so, Harry Potter is genera not literature. I'm not saying it's crap, because it's not. It's just not profound enough and doesn't use enough literary devices to be literature. Hell, a lot of the fiction I read can't be considered literature.
Anyway, I prefer other novels to Harry Potter. Currently I'm reading Emma and Little Women, but I'll be reading a new Timothy Zahn Star Wars novel after that.
