Once upon a time
In a land far, far away,
There lived a fairy tale Princess
Whose hair was going grey.
She sat and wondered why
Prince Charming never came,
On a wicked witch or bus strike
She knew would lie the blame.
When, in through her window,
There flew a little bird,
She knew she was losing her marbles
As this is what she heard.
"It’s now the woman’s job
To chase after the man.
They call it equal rights,
So get out if you can."
"You’ll have to get to work
If you want to be a bride.
Rescue a Prince from a dragon
If you want him by your side."
Despite being an old-fashioned girl,
With no idea how to fight,
The tower was very boring
So she said "Why not? Alright."
She put mascara on her lashes
And brushed out her curls,
Then did a quick trip down the shops
With a couple of the girls.
Out of the mall
She walked all alone,
Until she found a castle
Made of dark, gloomy stone.
From the lake of molten lava
She knew it was the place,
Where many a traveler
Vanished without trace.
But, valiant or plain stupid,
She walked through the door,
Ignoring the skeletons
Which littered the floor.
And there, straight ahead,
The great beast arose,
A fearsome sight,
Blowing flames from its nose.
With its jagged teeth
And fearsome claw,
She thought, "I hope this is not
My new mother in law."
And where others would fight,
Or turn tail and run,
The Princess fluttered her lashes
And smiled like the sun.
“Excuse me, Dragon,
I hope you don’t mind,
but I've always wanted to meet you.
You've been so hard to find!”
The dragon was amazed
That his visitor did not fight;
All the others had tried to slay him,
So he'd killed them outright.
He knew not what to say,
So waved her on by,
But she stood still and asked,
“What’s it like to fly?”
By the time an hour passed
The Princess achieved her aim;
For when someone is your friend,
You are less likely to maim.
So she went up to the tower
And there she found the Prince.
And, although he was quite charming,
Something made her wince.
A man cowering in a tower
Could have little pride.
Sighing from the heart,
She knew deep inside
That she hated this role reversal,
Where the women must be strong;
To a man cowardly and weak
She could never belong.
Leaving the puzzled Prince behind
She went back down the stairs,
Catching the still clueless dragon
Quite unawares.
The putting on her best smile,
She asked all polite,
“So come on Mr. Dragon,
How about that flight?”
A girl can have more fun
With a dragon than with a man
And should search for new adventures
Whenever she can!
