"Jaago Foundation" is a charitable organization dedicated to the betterment of underprivileged and poverty-stricken children of Bangladesh. Founded in April 2007 in Dhaka by a group of young students, it focuses mainly on battling malnutrition and illiteracy in children and on rehabilitating them to better environments and social conditions. Jaago is currently directed to conducting activities to provide more long-term and sustainable benefits to children who are under the poverty line.
OUR VISION: Jaago looks to create a society for children, which is free of exploitation, discrimination and violence, and supports the achievement of their highest potential.
OUR MISSION: Jaago aims to bring about substantial improvement in the lives of disadvantaged children with special emphasis on their literacy and nourishment.
OUR OBJECTIVES:
• To provide free basic education to the poor and needy children
• To provide training facilities to children on simple work skills
• To recognize individual talents and abilities in socially disadvantaged children and to ensure proper placement and enrichment of these abilities
• To establish healthy and balanced diets for undernourished children
• To raise awareness about basic child rights
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Jaago's current project aim is to run a primary school for poor children. The children will be taught free of cost – the expenses for each child will be sponsored by donor families and all of the working staff involved in the program will work voluntarily. The families of the children will be provided with 1 kg rice on each day of the week as an incentive. The school will be held for two hours, three days a week. Some of the areas that will be covered are:
• Basic English – Writing and Simple Grammar
• Basic Bengali – Writing and Simple grammar
• Basic Mathematics
• Personal Health and Hygiene
• Manners and Etiquette
• Knowledge of Basic Child’s Rights
• Awareness of Illegal Drugs, Smuggling and Trafficking of Children
• Civic Duty
As a later part of the project, the children will be given medical support, and training on simple work skills.
Jaago Foundation currently has a liaison office in Australia and hoping to create more soon in the USA, UK, Canada and so on.
