It seems, however, I've tripped upon a real psycho in the course of my gamboling and cavorting. Takes himself a bit too seriously.

My friends tell me I shouldn't read the news, because I get too worked up.

I read an article about three young teenage boys who stabbed an old woman to death, a neighbor of theirs. Immediately tried to buy stuff with her credit card over the phone, and that's how they got caught.

I read about a woman babysitting her cousin's son. She had her own children pin him down while she beat him to death. She "hid" him on the bed in the main bedroom, under a blanket, for two days before finally stashing him in a closet and telling the cops he was abducted.

This week a man answered his door at 9pm. Someone he'd never seen before shot him through the storm door and fled. Nothing was stolen, no break-in, just shot him and left.

Ouch. Someone's leaving.

Not that it should be that big a deal. It's just Facebook/Human Pets. It's not the city I live in. And I don't even know the person well. We exchanged messages on here for a while and it was neat, but I kinda tapered off and dropped the ball.

I wrote today to try to catch up with her and got a curt note back appraising me of her imminent departure. It's kind of... well, it feels a little like a robbery. She's within her rights, and I hope her fleeing isn't the result of some really ugly online interaction, like I know it can get sometimes. But there's only a few people I care to talk to here, and now one's of them's all, "OKAYLATERBYE!"

I hate always feeling like I've blown it.

Well, to be completely honest, I do have a few interesting conversations running here. I like to complain about how people don't like to chat properly here, but I guess those are just stupid people who don't have anything interesting to say. I should stop thinking that's my fault somehow and admit it may be their problem. That's like blaming myself when someone else gets lupus. Not my fault.

But I've met a few interesting people here and I enjoy chatting with them. I don't have as much time to reply as often as I'd like, but I do value having met them and will throw them notes when I get a chance.

Hosted a large party at my house tonight. My girlfriend's parents couldn't come because they were anticipating a huge blizzard. We had her sisters and my family meet at our house, and we set up a pretty good burrito bar. A few people brought dessert, a few people brought drinks, and it all worked out.

I'm glad my niece got to meet her future cousins. She's too young to understand exactly what that means now, but she'll get it. I wished I could have mingled more but I was one of the hosts so of course I was otherwise preoccupied. Ultimately, it was a great night.
