So, I'm back from the trip. It was a lot of fun, despite the fact that we had to change our plans a bit. We hoped we would be able to ride on Mt. Pilsko, which is a nice mountain about 1500m/5000ft above sea level with diverse slopes and very nice views on Beskid Śląski mountain range. The information published on the resort's official homepage on Friday looked very promising too. On Saturday morning we have learned that the warm wind that was blowing strongly all Friday melted or blown away much of the snow so the slopes on top of Pilsko are mostly sheets of ice peppered with fist-sized stones. Not good. Moreover only one chairlift at the very base of the mountain was actually running in the morning - not that it made all that much difference... We decided to look for another option. A nice lady from a ski school in Korbielów recommended to us a small ski resort on the Slovakian side of the border (about 6km/4mi away) Grúniki in village Sihelné. It has just just a single slope, about 1000m/3000ft long lined with two T-bar ski lifts on either side. The slope is rather mild but has some humps that offer much steeper descent in case you want to gather some speed. In a way it was something I needed as I was just breaking in my new board - NeverSummer Titan 160. Over the weekend, I was able to ride it for about 8 hours and my impression so far is: OHMYGOD IT'S SO GOOD I JUST CANT BELIEVE IT! Like, seriously. The responsiveness and the grip it offers while carving turns are unbelievable. It's like the board was talking to you while you ride it. It's saying just one thing most of the time, however: FASTER!!! :D At the end of the second day I was riding at least 20% faster than the fastest I was able to ride on my previous board while still feeling in control. Even when I was going over bumps / small moguls the board would just spring back into track without loosing stability. And I feel this is just the beginning...
I'm already planning anther trip in two weeks time. Hopefully we'll be able to hit Mt. Pilsko this time.
