Running For Blood

The trees against the sky
were silhouettes
and Prog raced for his life
against all bets
that he would die

The villagers chased
and Prog ran faster
They carried ammo and guns
Prog was ready for a disaster
that he would face

The sun hung low
and was bleeding in the sky
clotting between the twigs
that were dead and dry
with nothing beautiful to show

Then finally a shot
near the cliff
where beneath was a valley
Prog suddenly became stiff
and the blood was hot

Crimson divine flowed out
into the snow
released from the body
after the blow
and Prog stood up

The villagers were all silent
Prog was alive and grinning
his teeth as sharp as knives
he knew they grew because of sinning
when he sucked the blood of the children

Prog stepped back
and dove off the cliff
where beneath was a valley
the villagers became stiff
when there was no impact
