First century Jews obeyed what was known as the Mosaic Law, which shadowed the good things to come upon Christ's arrival.

If we consider the examples of Joseph and Daniel we see that wisdom and knowledge of God are available only to ones serving Him.

For us to gain God's favor, we may have to abandon previously held views.

First-ce ntury Jews who became Christians had to do just that.

Brought up to respect and obey the laws laid down under the Jewish system of things (the mosaic law), they needed time to accept Jesus as the Messiah.

As he came to fulfill the Mosaic Law, which served as “a shadow of the good things to come.” (Hebrews 10:1; Matthew 5:17; Luke 24:44, 45) Taking its place was “the law of the Christ,” which is far superior to the Mosaic Law. Galatians 6:2; Romans 13:10; James 2:8.

If you think of it in the sense of government, some laws are passed which serve their purpose for that time, however - there are times when we see that the law is either ineffective, or that there is a better way of doing something.

For example our government is now banning smoking in public places, in order to protect children from the effects of second hand smoke. Previously held laws did not do that - so they are replaced by a better law.

Christ, being the son of God; knowing the mind of God himself was clearly a better instructor of any standards that God had for us than any of his prophets that had been sent prior to Him sending his only begotten son.

Keeping Sunday was part of the mosaic law, and it was upheld by the Pharisees. When Jesus came, he did away with the mosaic law, so no, Sunday does not hold any special significance for me.
