when i was a little girl, i had a cocker spaniel named Abby. as cocker spaniels go, she was even crazier than more, and they are all so inbred that they are nuts. we had her for a few years and she got to be a handful, so, when my mom and i went to visit my grandparents in Arkansas, my dad gave her away to a friend of his that bred Cockers. i was five and heartbroken, and i've still never forgiven my father for that kind of betrayal.

when i was eight, i saw the ghost of a little girl on the banks of the Arkansas river. she was dressed all in white and looked as though a light was emanating from her. we were crossing the River bridge and she was far away. it was a very bleak, rainy winter day. i will never forget because nothing like that has happened since. i know she was a ghost because that side of the river had been closed off for thirty years, even to hunters, because there were so many drowning deaths in the deep icy water all those many years ago.
