So...Sunday I kind of got a renewed lease on life. An F3 tornado tore through Prattville and nearly destroyed everything. It missed my house by less than half a mile. The tornado itself was half a mile wide, so we were in great range to get hit. We lost power for 13.5 hours and my mind is still blown that we're alive, even moreso that we weren't injured.
Granted, I've lived through just about every kind of weather/natural disaster that exists, but it's never been this close. When Hurricane Bonnie ripped through Virginia Beach back in 98 and we were right on the water, it still wasn't this scary. The center of town's been destroyed, to include Wal-Mart (where we buy EVERYTHING), a number of buildings and houses, and my former place of employment. I'm just kind of speechless...
Anyway, thoughts and prayers are appreciated, it's going to take a long time to rebuild and get back into the swing of things. On the bright side I finally got that vacation I wanted. :(
Pictures from left to right are the apartments behind Wal-Mart, across the street from my former job, Kmart itself, and a picture of the neighborhood that's less than a quarter of a mile from mine.
