I get a phone call from my dad and he says "uhh hey, yeah I need you to go rescue a baby cow. I gotta go to work but just go get it and bring it home". He hung up with out giving me a chance to refute him. Jumped in my car and drove down to the cabin to survey the situation. On my way there I pick up 6 bags of sweet feed, a bag of calf replacement milk and a giant bottle to feed it with. I get to the cabin and i have no plan. I pour out the 6 bags in the feed boxes in order to distract the other 40 cows. As the herd begins to eat I being to check out the pasture for the little calf and in the distance the tiny guy trying to stand. It's weak and hopefully I'll be able to snag it before the mother knows I'm there. As I approach the little guy it looks as if I am going to be able to do this, but all of a sudden the sucker begins to cry and hobble towards the herd. Almost immediatly the mother and 2 bulls begin to run toward me. Knowing that these cows are stupid and generally afraid of people I started to run towards them, it works and the two bulls run away. However, the mother continued toward me and ran beside her calf. I picked up the calf and started to run towards the gate. Just then I see my dad has arrived and was standing at the gate. It can see that the mother cow is closeing in on me and I have about 100 yards more to run. Even though the calf is a newborn and slightly under feed it still weighs about 55 pounds. Sprinting with the mooing calf in my arms and the thundering steps of the mother slowly gaining on my I can hear my father shout "Jo! You are going to need to run faster!". I couldn't waste the energy to shout a sarcastic remark back but in my head I was thinking "really!? I thought I would run just a little fast in order build suspense". I was feet from the gate and the mother was feet from me when dad lets my dog out of the car. My dog jumps through the fence to my aid. With out hesitation he runs at the giant cow barking and snarling. This gives me enough time to get through the gate to saftey. I whistle and my dog runs through the fence and the mission is a success. Now I am the proud parent of a new baby cow who is currently sitting right beside me and cuddling with my dog. My house is so weird.
