born into a twisted world jayra has no idea of right and wrong, only what feels good. she walks down streets lined with hookers begging for patronage, walking cautiously she avoids the street walkers like she's in a video game. she shoves her hand in her pocket and fumbles to retrieve a cigarette. she shakes as she places the cigarette between her lips, this is a dangerous place to be at this hour. as she lights her match a powerful gust of wind extinguishes it. "shit!" jayra exclaims. she mumbles a bit about that being her last match. a dark figure appears behind jayra "need a light?" a deep, mysterious voice asks. jayra jumps, "what the...!? sorry, yeah." she dips her cigarette into the flames. "mmm, thanks." jayra says while puffing. "i'm tyne." the mysterious man in the shadows replies. "you must be jayra. i've been looking for you." jayra backed up. she's worried that he's dangerous. "how did you know that? what the fuck are you doing looking for me?!" jayra said, starting to breathe heavy, her nerves getting the best of her. "you dropped this a few blocks ago..." tyne says extending her wallet. "you...you...you must have taken this!" jayra says, snatching the wallet from tyne's hand. she runs her fingers across the bound leather wallet, the texture of the smooth skin calming her. she closes her eyes and thinks of the day her mother gave this to her. jayra saw her mother's aged frail hand extending from the blanket clutching that wallet. her weak voice told the story, "jayra, i made this with my own hands when i was much younger than you are now. the skin is from my very own mother. i am now too old to use it. my life is coming to an end, i am passing this to you. cherish it and pass it on to someone you cherish when you are as frail and old as i am. take care of it..." those were lyla's last words. they ring in jayra's ears. "i didn't take nothin'!" tyne yelled defensively. "you here me, girl?" jayra snapped back to the present. "oh...okay." she nodded. "you dropped this and i wanted to return it. i didn't take nothing out of it. not even coins. not a one. i swear." tyne said defensively, seeming proud of his honesty. "well, thank you for returning it, it's a very important thing to me." jayra smiles at the still shadowed man. tyne steps out of the shadow. "nayth? what are you...why...you...oh my god." jayra was stunned. "hello, jayra." nayth smiles sentimentally. "i've missed you." nayth says stroking jayra's face with the outside of his hand. "i thought you were dead. where did you go? why did you hide your identity? what's going on?" jayra spills her questions, like a strong river. "shhhhh." nayth puts a finger up to her lips. "there's time for questions later. but i must know, did you leave the business? i must know." nayth says sternly. "yes. when you...when i thought you died, i couldn't bare it anymore. a business of the flesh was...ugly when you left." jayra wipes a tear away that was slipping down her face.
