Everybody, at least most little boys, at some point wanted to be a fireman when he grew up right? Or how about a doctor or nurse or policeman. Since there is an island based population with nothing to really do, why not adress a global issue such as disaster relief. Get other countries (UN?) to pay the people of the island to provide a year round standing force of Search and Rescue Technicians training year round to respond automatically. Makes more sense than a military.

think about it it needs industry, why not hemp. Make the island self sufficient and then start selling weed to all the enviro tourists and get rich.
