My boyfriend, Mikee took me to UC Irvine to watch his cousin, Richie's performance in their 29th Annual Pilipino Culture Night (PCN).
If you've never been to one, YOU'RE MISSING OUT! There was cultural dancing, a play, food, and you get to be loud with friends and family! What more could you ask for?
This year's story was about a Filipino family struggling to keep family tradition while being understanding and accepting of their children's decisions. Their youngest is graduating high school and he feels burdened by the pressure on him to be the "perfect son." Their daughter wants to marry a mestizo boy, and their oldest son finally accepts that he's bisexual and doesn't know how to tell his family.
Overall, the night went very well! I loved the characters and story was sooo good! The funny "commercials" showed in between each act were HILARIOUS! It was just sooo loooooong though! It started at 7 and was supposed to end by 10 but it went on till 12AM! But the most disappointing part was when KABA groupies interrupted the show. PCN is about celebrating the rich history of the Philippine Culture!!! But these people just came for KABA Modern's performance (from America's Best Dance Crew)... and they took like 15 minutes to shut up and leave! It was so rude, I hate groupies!
I LOVE KABA MODERN but geez have some respect for the rest of KABABAYAN. They're your roots dammit!
I couldn't find Kaba Modern's performance at PCN this year so you'll have to just settle for last year's:
