Part of Easter celebration here in the Philippines is lighting up fireworks (the kind that explodes but doesn't light up) at dawn. Being roused by explosions that sounded much like gunfire triggered my earliest memory...
I must have been 2 or 3 years old then. My father woke me and my mother during the wee hours of dawn. There were gunshots being fired just outside our house. It seems that someone was being ambushed on our street. My father brought us in the center of our house and told us to crouch. He and my mother embraced me and both of them covered my entire body. My father told me that those explosions were gunshots and explained to me how to differentiate them from other explosions. I remember feeling very scared yet very safe in my parents' arms. When I got older whenever I remember that moment, I realize just how much a parent loves his child. So much so that he would be willing to use his own body as a shield to protect his child from any stray bullets.

Do you know what the crammer's rule is? It's a twisted form of the Pareto Principle or 80-20 rule applied particularly to scheduling... That is, you do the last 80% of the work during the last 20% of the time. Hehe. d=

So... I'm away on a business trip to Cebu. And one of my friends told me a couple of times in the past that there are a lot of pretty girls here. Not until I've actually seen it for myself could I say that... "This place has a statistically anomalous percentage of pretty girls!"
