Scenes of Today
The blind pursue their liquid dreams
down paths of golden dark.
Their folly fills the tattered reams
of a misguided covetous heart.
Lust, as love, is being sold,
so hope now yields despair.
No act too violent, no bars can hold
the art we need to air.
Entertainers drink their wine
while teachers grub for bread.
Doctors cannot hold the line
against lawsuits so widespread.
Men take men as their wives, while
women take “more” as their stand.
Butchers deliver the unborn child,
and "Liberty!" is the cry of the land.
Great men pillage their people’s trust
so the working man gets none.
But unions decay companies like rust
'til all they have built is undone.
Scenes of today are the news of tomorrow
where yesterday’s lessons teach us to borrow
against the future to live for today;
our fears do our money and science allay.
Wisdom has fled the halls,
and Knowledge is being raped.
The lie’s laid bare, “There is no God!”
declare the enlightened of our age.
Apostasy has run amok,
no philosophy’s too progressive.
Priests no longer shepherd their flock,
but coerce them to become permissive.
Like wild beasts about to feed on flesh,
the call for Jihad men heed.
Frenzied sons strap bombs to their chests.
Fathers reap their ill-sown seed.
As guileless lambs to the slaughterhouse sold,
the innocent are found dead
in streets that once were paved with gold
but now run with martyr red.
Hindus hate Muslims who hate the Jew;
Christians are losing their way
in a world of wealth where all want their due
but refuse to work for their pay.
Scenes of today are the news of tomorrow
where yesterday’s hopes all turn to sorrow.
Why kill ourselves to live for the day?
Surely you and I can find a better way.
